Service Advisor

Position Description

A service writer greets customers at the mechanic or dealership, listens to their concerns and addresses inquiries as necessary, writes reports of a vehicle's condition, and delivers information to a professional mechanic or technician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Service Writer

  • Greets patrons at the dealership or mechanic.
  • Inquires as to reason for customer visit.
  • Takes detailed notes with regard to customer's vehicle issues.
  • Asks follow up questions as necessary.
  • Enters customer's personal information in dealership database.
  • Provides forms for customers to sign.
  • Draws up work order with specific details.
  • Assigns vehicle inspection to mechanic.
  • Acts as liaison between customer and vehicle technician.
  • Provides cost estimates.
  • Assists service advisors in analyzing nature of vehicle issues.
  • Imparts information to customer regarding the work provided by the mechanic.
  • Answers customer questions regarding condition of the vehicle, wait time, and cost.
  • Explains terminology and the nature of work completed to customer.
  • Prints out billing statements.

·         Explains billing details to customer.

  • Maintains logs of vehicle work completed.
  • Answers service area phones and schedules appointments as needed.
  • Drives vehicle from garage to customer parking lot when service is completed.
  • Refers customer to service advisor as necessary.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous work experience in automotive industry required.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.

Deisel Mechanic

Job description

We are looking for physically fit candidates with good attention to detail for the position of diesel mechanic. The primary duties of a diesel mechanic include performing diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results and repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components.

Diesel mechanics need to be highly organized and communicate effectively, as they will be expected to maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and interact with customers on a daily basis.
Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities:

Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
Analyzing diagnostic test results.
Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
Checking vehicle lighting systems.
Test driving vehicles to gauge performance.
Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks.
Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles.
Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
Maintaining a parts inventory.
Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop.
Diesel Mechanic Requirements:
Degree or diploma in mechanical or automotive engineering.
ASE Diesel Certification advantageous.
Valid driver's license.
Aptitude for mathematics and science.
Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components.
Good IT and diagnostic skills.
Physically fit and able to lift up to 150 pounds.
Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
Attention to detail.
Good interpersonal skills.

Lube Tech

Responsibilites will include: change a vehicle's oil, check the transmission fluid and other fluid levels, inspect various belts and filters, and check air levels and gauges. Training will be provided, but candidates should at least have a basic understanding of car maintenance.

Must have worked in an automotive shop or a dealership. Must have prior experience doing the above services.

·  Keep up with required knowledge and skills in automotive maintenance by attending workshops, seminars or other classes to help ensure the work completed is of the highest quality.

·  Maintain a clean working environment on the automotive service floor by putting materials and parts away as work is completed and ensuring the customer's car is kept neat and orderly throughout the scope of work.

·  Follow all safety requirements and local and federal standards when it comes to disposing of hazardous or toxic materials.

·  Adhere to best practices when working in the automotive service environment by reporting any accidents or incidents to management as soon as possible.

Job Skills & Qualifications


·  At least two years of experience working in the automotive industry

·  High school diploma or equivalent

·  A valid driver's license and a driving record clear of major violations



·  Experience delivering outstanding customer service
